After his discharge in 1946 and separation from Anna-Luise Eissen, he devoted himself entirely to his writing. In 1944 he was drafted into the German Volkssturm and finally interned at Camp Roosevelt in the UK.
He had been in a relationship with Anna-Luise Eissen since 1931 and lived with her for a while on her family estate Gut Nottbeck near Stromberg and in Sennestadt.
In addition, from 1930 to 1934 he was honorary mayor of Gadderbaum in Bielefeld. From 1936 to 1947 he was responsible for inheritance and gift matters in the von Bodelschwingh Foundation. In 1927 he was appointed editor-in-chief of the Christian social magazine Aufwärts of the Von Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel in Bielefeld, whose publication was discontinued in 1936 by order of the NSDAP. Hermann Huttel initially worked as a business economist in a local industrial company. His son Heinz (1925–2014) was born two years later. In 1923 he married Erna Elisabeth "Elli" Läufer from Ehringshausen. After his release in 1919, he studied literary history, philosophy and political science at the Ludoviciana in Gießen and was awarded a doctorate in 1924. His escape attempts earned him dark custody and the introduction to the citadel of the Île d'Oléron. In 1917 he was taken prisoner in France after several wounds and life-threatening gas poisoning. After graduating from the Royal High School in Wetzlar, he volunteered in the First World War in 1914. Hermann Huttel grew up in Ehringshausen with his parents Magdalene (née Rumpf) and the municipal rentmaster Heinrich Huttel.
